We know this car will never exist, so this won't be the answer. But let's say someone wanted to spend whatever amounts of money to make a 5000 horsepower car. Could he still make it lighter than a Hummer? Could it do anything other than a straight line? Would it have to have a W24 engine running twincharging?
Actually, I want that last thing to exist.

A jet turbine or nitromethane drag engine... either it needs immense torque to convert to horsepower in a usable RPM band or an immense number of RPMs.

That is getting close to top fuel funny car levels of power. I believe they rebuild the engine after every pass. Reliability may be an issue.

I know that some top fuel dragsters make that much but the gas for those is outrageous (like $400 a run). Also those engines don't tend to run long. I just don't think with today's tech it would be possible without having like you said A w24 running twin charging. Though I'm sure one day they'll figure it out.

Yeah, this is why I couldn't see this being feasible or admirable in a road car. Hell, even a track car.

I don't know why I didn't think about turbine power. Now I want a car to run dual turbines, one for each drive axle.

It would take two turboshaft engines. Pratt & Whitney make a 2,500 HP version that's roughly 3x3x5. That's less than Hummer footprint territory if you add support hardware, fuel, and only have two passengers. This, of course, would require a dual input CVT transmission that hasn't been invented.

You're right, it would be completely unstreetable, the only thing a 5000 HP road car would be good for is bragging rights (mine's bigger than yours is) and expensive smokey burnouts. Just imagine the amount of fuel it would take to make that kind of power.

3000hp e85 is possible so they are not far off on getting this done.

As others are echoing, you'd have to turn to turbines. If you want everyday useability and actually have traction to use that power, Jet Propulsion is your only solution.
Nitromethane is another way, but really only useful if your okay with unreasonably large tires, and having a pit crew who will follow you everywhere and rebuild the engine on cue after every stoplight race.

I don't think it is wide enough. What's the track width? Together they're 64" wide.
